General Information for Parents

Congratulations! It looks like your child has been selected by your local Commonwealth Games Association to compete in this year’s Commonwealth Youth Games. If you plan on accompanying your young athlete to the games, pack your bags for July 17 – July 23, 2017 to come to sunny Nassau, Bahamas!

We will use this page to provide you with some basic information that we think you would like to know heading towards July.

Your child will be staying at either the Melia or Breezes Hotel. These hotels are all-inclusive and are located on beautiful Cable Beach. These hotels are very safe and will be fully staffed by security to ensure your children will remain happy and safe during the games. Private buses will be available at the hotel every 30 minutes to transport athletes and coaches to the sporting facilities.

For parents who are coming to the games, we are recommending the following hotels:

Melia – this property is not fully booked out by the Commonwealth Youth Games and will house athletes. All-inclusive property.

Courtyard Marriott– this property is closer to downtown and right near the Fish Fry. A beautiful spot that would provide great memories.

Atlantis – this property is located on the luxurious Paradise Island and is as beautiful as a hotel can be. Note that it is a relatively far drive to the facilities from the Atlantis.

Sandyport Hotel – this property is located west of Breezes and Melia but still on Cable Beach. A beautiful spot that is not too far from the sporting facilities

Your transportation is largely up to you. Only accredited individuals are able to use the bus from the athlete’s hotels to get to the sporting facilities. Because of this, your options are:

  1. Public busing – runs constantly throughout Nassau and offers a truly Bahamian touch. Routes can be found online but it might be difficult to get to the facilities using public buses.
  2. Taxi – can be easily called from all hotels.
  3. Private car rental – available at the airport from a variety of international businesses.

This page will be updated accordingly as new information arises but if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact and who will address your concerns as fully as possible.

See you in July!
